2019: Word of the Year

At the start of every year, we’re bombarded by articles on how to set resolutions or why we should skip them altogether.

Everyone has their own approach.

Some people swear by choosing one single thing they want to change.

Others make a list of ALL the things they want to change.

There are folks that choose to focus on the things they did right in the year before and vow to continue those actions, rather than impose new ones.

The approach I’m trying this year is to pick one single word that will be my overall focus for 2019.

My word for this year is…

Endurance

Endurance.

I want to build Endurance in many areas of my life. To work consistently, step by step, every day without expecting instant gratification.

When it comes to exercise, building endurance could help me both lose weight and improve my singing technique.

In songwriting, I want to stop abandoning songs at the first roadblock I encounter. I want to push through and work until they’re complete. Little by little. Every day.

I want to learn to appreciate the discomfort of effort instead of being discouraged by it.

It’s not easy? It takes work?

Good. Bring it on.

What’s your word of the year?

Thanks for reading!
Malu

Dear Malukah… I love how you always succeed in making us think. Sometimes with simple little things. You know, when I watch you having fun and finding pleasure in crafting tiny envelopes, you are a model to me. Why? Just because you find happiness in little simple things. So I guess my word could be Happiness. Yeah, it’s weird but, I feel like I have everything around me to be happy but, I seem to always want more somehow. I need to work on my happiness this year. Not that I’m never happy, on the contrary, many things make me happy (just watching you play or sing as an example). I watch you play guitar, you make a mistake, you start smiling and laughing… me, I would get grumpy I think. Why?! I need to understand that and work on it. So, I guess that would be my word… Happiness… Am I making sense?!?

I really like the idea of picking a word and focus on that instead of just making a list.
My word of the year is going to be: Habit. I want to develop some good habits. A habit where I sleep on regular times for example, I feel like I was always tired last year haha. Another habit I want to develop is going to the gym and eat more healthy. I also want to spend more time on learning new things (A new language for example) instead of just spending time on useless things.
An idea I got while reading is to make a word cloud at the end of the year. By adding a new word to it every year, I think it would help to motivate to keep improving. In a few years you would get this really nice picture with all the things you have achieved 😀

Whenever. That’s ,y word. I believe: To do list at a beginning of a year about things we want to change won’t work. That’s my experience an believe.
But: Whenever you think you should change something in your life: DO IT! Don’t waste time waiting for a special date.
